2020 Census Ends in 51 Days!

Only 51 days left to ensure everyone in our community is counted in the 2020 Census! Ohio currently ranks 10th in the nation in 2020 Total Self-Response at 67.5%. Your hard work in helping to promote the census and increase response rates is continuing to pay off. Remember, you can respond to the census online my2020census.gov, by phone 844-330-3030, or by mail.

Operations Updates:

The U.S. Census Bureau recently announced updates to the operational plans, reflecting a continued commitment to conduct a complete count, provide accurate apportionment data, and protect the health and safety of the public and our workforce. As the U.S. Census Bureau continues to evaluate its operational plans to collect and process 2020 Census data, it was announced that field data collection will end by September 30, 2020. Self-response options will also close on that date to permit the commencement of data processing.

In order to ensure a complete and accurate count, the U.S. Census Bureau has begun emailing households in low-responding areas to encourage them to respond to the 2020 Census. Millions of emails were sent last week and will continue into September. These emails are part of a final campaign reminding people to respond to the 2020 Census on their own, as census takers begin asking households to respond to the census.

Census takers will be out knocking on doors of households that haven’t responded to the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau will provide face masks to census takers, requiring them to wear a mask while conducting their work. They will follow CDC and local public health guidelines when they visit. Census takers are hired from local communities.

The Mobile Questionnaire Assistance (MQA) program is a separate activity from census takers going door to door to count households that have not yet responded. MQA representatives will encourage people to respond to the 2020 Census in open, public places in the lowest responding areas of the nation. These are places where people naturally visit when leaving home to help increase self-response rates. Locations for MQAs will include grocery stores and markets, food banks, laundromats, restaurants and grab-and-go eateries, unemployment offices, back to school drives, places of worship, and libraries.

Statistics in Schools

Whether your school district is planning a virtual, in-person or hybrid model, the Statistics in Schools program is a great way to capture the attention of students with over 200 free activities. The Statistics in Schools (SIS) program allows K-12 educators to incorporate statistics into their history, geography, math, and sociology lessons. Many parents and other adults taking care of children in their homes are looking for ways to continue their learning and keep them engaged. The U.S. Census Bureau can help with our Statistics in Schools program, which offers over 200 free learning activities and resources for children in pre-K through 12th grade that can easily be used at home.
