Smallmouth Bass – Our season starts in April and May with this spectacular fighting fish and pics up again in August through October. Known for it’s aerial acrobatics the “smallie” takes skill and patience to catch. Two and three pound fish are common with an occasional five-pounder-plus being hooked. This fish explodes when you set your hook.
Lake Erie Walleye – This fish is the “Pride & Joy” of Lake Erie anglers. If you’ve fished here before, you already know. If you haven’t, you don’t know what you have been missing. West Sister offers the BEST Walleye fishing in the world. The walleye is our main target in April through August, as well as September and October. Without a doubt, walleye is the finest freshwater fishing you will ever experience.
Yellow Perch– Early spring or fall is the season to angle for this great tasting panfish. If your fishing party includes any junior anglers, this is the way to “break them in” with high limit catches and lots of catching action. Stock your freezer with this great eating fish.

Wildlife
Jerusalem Township Ohio is a birder’s paradise, and home to rare species of plants and animals. The Great Lakes Basin and northwest Ohio are rich with wildlife. Great Black Swamp and Cedar Creek provide diverse habitats for a variety of rare species. Migrating birds use this region as an important stopover for food and cover. The forest section is a critical habitat for interior dwelling species from wood thrush to red-backed salamanders. The floodplain corridor contains vital food, water and cover for hundreds of migratory songbirds every spring and fall. The south shore of Lake Erie, lies at the crossroads of the Mississippi and Atlantic flyways. These migratory routes are used by more than 300 species of birds annually, from colorful songbirds known as warblers to ducks, raptors, and predator birds such as owls and hawks. Bald eagles are commonly seen from the lakeshore. Ohio’s two state-listed threatened species of turtles, Blanding’s turtles and spotted turtles, as well as the federally endangered Karner blue butterfly can be found here. Throughout Jerusalem Township keep an eye open for a variety of salamanders and snakes, white-tailed deer, fox, the elusive coyote (an opportunistic hunter whose range has expanded to include Ohio), an unmatched variety of birds (especially in the spring) walleye, bass and other fish species, a wealth of other wildlife as well as plant life and butterflies.
The marsh is located in a prime waterfowl area. During the fall migrations, marshes are used by large numbers of mallards, black ducks and widgeons. Blue-winged teal are also present, with lesser numbers of pintails, gadwalls, green-winged teal, wood ducks, canvasbacks, redheads, and coots. The number of geese stopping in the area has been increasing in recent years. Duck populations peak in mid-November. Many ducks remain late in the hunting season due to the availability of open water on Lake Erie and waste cereal grains in nearby fields. Spring migrations of waterfowl start in February with flights of mallards, black ducks and pintails. Migrating whistling swans are found on or near the marsh through late March and April. Other water birds to be found on the area include great blue herons, American bitterns, black-crowned night herons, green herons, cormorants and many species of shorebirds.
Jerusalem Township Mammals include Muskrats, Mink, Raccoon, Skunks, Rabbit, Deer, Fox, Turkey, Squirrels
